Shmita and Galut
Parshat Behar starts with the Mitzva of Shmita. If we do not keep Shmita, we must pay with Galut. According to the official chronology, the time from Bayit Rishon to Bayit Sheni was an Idan of 480 years. There were in the order of 480/7 would-be Shmita years in them, which were not kept, and thus the last 70 years of the Idan became years of Galut. Historically, the time from the destruction of Bayit Rishon was in year 3175, 10/3 times 70 years before the year 3409, when we start counting the years of Bayit Sheni. It must be that the 10/3 times 70 years were to compensate for 10/3 times 480 years of not keeping Shmita.
